Terms & Conditions
The C Word Burlesque / Townsville Burlesque
Last updated: Sept 2026
1. About These Terms
These Terms & Conditions apply to participation in classes, workshops, performances, rehearsals, events and other activities organised or facilitated by The C Word Burlesque.
For the purposes of these Terms:
“TCW” refers to The C Word Burlesque and, where applicable, Townsville Burlesque.
“Participant” refers to any person enrolled in or participating in a TCW class, workshop, performance or event.
“TCW Community” refers to instructors, students, performers, participants, volunteers and other people engaged in activities under The C Word Burlesque or Townsville Burlesque.
By enrolling in or participating in a TCW activity, Participants agree to comply with these Terms & Conditions and any reasonable instructions provided by TCW instructors, facilitators or authorised representatives.
2. Liability and Risk Acknowledgement
I understand that burlesque classes and related activities may involve physical movement, dance, stretching, floor work, exercise, changes in balance and coordination, and the use of equipment or props.
I acknowledge that participation in physical activity carries inherent risks, including the possibility of physical injury, and that The C Word Burlesque cannot guarantee that participation will be free from all risk of injury.
I agree to:
follow reasonable instructions provided by TCW instructors and facilitators;
participate within my own capabilities;
advise the instructor of any relevant injury, limitation or health concern that may affect my participation;
stop or modify an activity if I believe continuing may place me at risk of injury; and
seek appropriate medical advice where I have concerns about whether participation is suitable for me.
I understand that I am responsible for making reasonable decisions about my own participation and should communicate with the instructor if I need an activity to be modified or if I need to stop participating.
Nothing in these Terms & Conditions excludes, restricts or modifies any right, guarantee, remedy or liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, restricted or modified under applicable Australian law.
3. TCW Community Standards
TCW aims to provide a respectful and inclusive environment for Participants, instructors, performers, volunteers, venues and other members of the TCW Community.
Participants are expected to interact with others respectfully and appropriately.
Participants must not:
disclose another Participant's personal information without their permission;
represent themselves as speaking on behalf of TCW without authorisation;
disclose confidential or commercially sensitive information belonging to TCW or another Participant;
publish photographs or video identifying another Participant without that person's permission;
engage in harassment, bullying, threats, discrimination or unlawful conduct;
make knowingly false or misleading statements about TCW or its Participants; or
use TCW's name, branding or social media accounts in a way that falsely suggests endorsement or official representation.
A Participant's presence at a class, workshop, performance or event does not by itself constitute permission for another Participant to photograph, record, publish, tag or publicly identify them.
4. Social Media and Online Conduct
Participants are personally responsible for content they publish through their own social media accounts or other online platforms.
Nothing in these Terms prevents a Participant from:
making a genuine complaint;
reporting unlawful conduct;
seeking professional or legal advice;
exercising a legal right; or
communicating honestly about their experience, where permitted by law.
Participants should not represent personal opinions or statements as official statements made by TCW unless they have been authorised to do so.
TCW may monitor publicly available online content relating to TCW for legitimate business, safety or community-management purposes.
TCW will not require Participants to provide passwords or private account access.
5. Photography, Video and Media
Photography and video recording may take place during TCW classes, workshops, rehearsals, performances and events.
Media and image consent is managed separately from these Terms & Conditions.
Participants will be asked to nominate their preferred media consent option during enrolment. The applicable options and conditions are set out in the TCW Media & Image Consent.
A Participant's enrolment or attendance does not, by itself, constitute consent to the promotional or educational use of their identifiable image.
Participants must also respect the media preferences and privacy of other Participants and must not publish photographs or video identifying another Participant without that person's permission.
6. Managing Breaches of Community Standards
TCW may take reasonable action in response to serious or repeated breaches of these community standards.
Depending on the circumstances, this may include:
discussing the issue with the Participant;
requesting that content be removed or corrected;
issuing a warning;
restricting participation in a particular activity; or
cancelling an enrolment or restricting participation in future TCW activities.
TCW will consider the circumstances of each situation when deciding what action, if any, is appropriate.
Any action taken by TCW remains subject to applicable Australian law and any rights available to the Participant.
7. Instructions and Safety
Participants must follow reasonable safety instructions provided by TCW instructors, facilitators, venue staff or authorised representatives.
Participants may be asked to modify or stop an activity where an instructor reasonably considers that continuing may create a safety risk to the Participant or another person.
Participants should communicate with their instructor about relevant injuries, limitations or other circumstances that may affect their ability to safely participate.
8. Cancellation and Refund Policy
Cancellations Within 72 Hours
Cancellations made within 72 hours of the scheduled class or event commencing are not eligible for a refund, subject to any rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Cancellations More Than 72 Hours Before Commencement
Cancellations made more than 72 hours before the first scheduled class or event will receive a refund of the total amount paid, less a $50 cancellation fee.
Cancellations After the Term Has Commenced
No refunds will ordinarily be provided for cancellations made after the term has commenced.
Any refund, cancellation or other remedy that TCW is legally required to provide will remain available regardless of the terms of this policy.
9. Australian Consumer Law and Non-Excludable Rights
Nothing in these Terms & Conditions is intended to exclude, restrict or modify any right, guarantee, remedy or liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, restricted or modified under the Australian Consumer Law or other applicable Australian legislation.
Where a provision of these Terms is found to be inconsistent with a non-excludable legal right or obligation, that legal right or obligation will continue to apply.
10. Changes to These Terms
TCW may update these Terms & Conditions from time to time to reflect changes to its activities, procedures or legal obligations.
The current version of these Terms & Conditions will be made available through the TCW website, enrolment system or other relevant communication channel.
Where appropriate, TCW will notify Participants of significant changes that affect their participation or obligations.
